Lab Grown Diamond Engagement Rings

Are lab-grown diamonds the same as the real thing?

The short answer is yes! Synthetic diamonds are visually, physically and chemically identical to the diamonds shapedLab grown diamonds deep beneath the earth’s surface. The only difference is they have their origins in a lab. Diamonds which form in the earth are the result of millions of years of heat and high pressure. With the exact conditions they’re exposed to determining their size, colour, shape and purity.

Using the most advanced technology, scientists can recreate the same processes a natural diamond undergoes as it grows. And the results are identical to those of Mother Nature. Using High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) and Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD), they can ‘grow’ diamonds for use in the jewellery industry.

Lab-grown diamonds are not ‘fakes’ or cubic zirconias. They perfect mirror images of those which are mined. They are even graded by the same system used by all major certification bodies. This includes the International Gemological Institute (IGI). As with natural diamonds, each piece is individually graded according to the four Cs – carat, cut, clarity and colour.

A more cost effective and ethical choice

For those seeking to shop for an engagement ring, lab-grown diamonds are a far more ethical option. They are also a more cost-effective one. This is because there is none of the expensive mining and lengthy supply chains to get through. Diamonds grown under laboratory conditions are every inch as beautiful as their natural counterparts, but are also much cheaper to buy.

If we compare like for like, using a solitaire diamond engagement ring which has been naturally mined. With a 0.80 carat round brilliant cut diamond which is F in colour, VS2 in clarity and certified by the IGI. The retail for this ring would generally start at €6,000. Whereas, as lab grown diamond with the exact same spec retails in Commins & Co Jewellers at €3,150.00.

Commins & Co believe all jewellers have a responsibility to help minimise the harm done to people and the planet. This is why we stock a range of ethical diamonds. We have a direct link to one of the main distributors of synthetic diamonds. We take great pride in offering our clients a more ethical alternative. Lab-grown diamond engagement rings are among our most popular products. As more engaged couples look to shop for more cost-effective options, but without compromising on the beauty of their engagement rings.

Because lab-grown diamonds are more cost-effective. It often means you can get more for your money and know that your gems have been created without doing any damage to the natural world. The lab-grown diamond engagement rings in our extensive catalogue are indistinguishable from the Earth-forged product. This makes them the perfect choice if you are looking for an alternative to naturally mined diamonds.
