Tanzanite is very rare as it is only found in the hills of Mount Kilimanjaro in Northern Tanzania. It is said that tanzanite will be fully mined out in the next 20-30 years which will make it more valuable. It currently has a value of $600-$1000 per carat.
9. Taaffeite
This gem is named after Richard Taaffe, an Austrian gemologist who discovered the stone in 1945. These stones are very rare as only a small amount of them have ever been found making them a huge collector’s item. They are valued at $1500-$2500 per carat.
8. Black Opal
Black Opal is the rarest form of opal and also the most valuable. They mainly come from the Lighting Ridge mine in New South Wales and are valued at $2,300 per carat.
7. Benitoite
This stone was first discovered in 1907 and is mined in San Benito County, California. Its colour is Blue to purple and it is valued at $3000-$4000 per carat.
6. Red Beryl
The red beryl stone is also known as bixbite or scarlet emerald and is said to be 1000 times more valuable than gold. It is only mined in the Wah Wah Mountains of Utah. It is valued at $10,000 per carat.
5. Alexandrite
This stone is a colour changing stone depending on the light it is exposed to, it shifts from red to green. It was supposed to be all mined out but has recently been discovered again. It is value at $12,000 per carat.
4. Jadeite
This stone is very rare and is mainly found in small quantities in Myanmar. A jadeite necklace was sold at auction for $10 million and the highest grade of jadeite can sell for much more. This stone is valued at $20,000 per carat.
3. Musgravite
The colour of this stone goes from green to purple and was discovered in 1967. It is in the same family as the Taaffeite and is valued at $35,000 per carat
2. Painite
In 1950 this stone was discovered and was put down as one of the rarest gems on the planet as only two were found. In recent years a couple more have been discovered but still makes this gem extremely rare. It is value at $50,000-$60,000 per carat.

This diamond weights 59.6 carats and was mined in 1999. It is a fancy vivid pink colour and was sold for $83 million. It is valued at $1,395,761 per carat.
